Alicia's House
To honor the memory of Alicia, who passed away at the age of 4, on January 14, 2001, her Grandma Stella and her Poppy Juan started a non-for profit, 501c3, food pantry called Alicia's House. Alicia's House feeds hundreds of families each month and each box of food contains Alicia's loving touch. In 2006 Alicia's House fed 2,937 families, 9,743 individuals, and distributed 110,070 pounds of food. With your help they can help to feed even more hungry families each year. www.AliciasHouse.org
Sharon's Custom Designed Cakes
This specialty cake shop operates from a historic home in downtown Crete, Illinois. The house was built in 1877 by Daniel E. Hewes, originator of the Acme Potato Co. In 1991, the building was purchased by Sharon Komes to fulfill her dream of opening a cake shop, which led to the opening of Sharon's Custom Designed Cakes shortly thereafter. In 1994, the house was awarded a "Beautification Award" by the Crete Area Historical Society. chicagolandcakes.com
Crete Aurelio's Pizza
In 1959, Joe Aurelio Jr., at age 26, opened a small, 4 table restaurant on Ridge Rd. in Homewood, IL. In the early days, sales were driven by Joe's homecooked beef sandwiches, but as more people were exposed to his pizza, the concept began to take flight. Combining generations of family recipes with his innovative approach to pizza-making, Joe's recipe for success was born. aureliospizza.com
